Forwarded from an article published by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd.: At 10:46 am on August 10, 2023, the reactor core module of the Hainan Changjiang Multipurpose Modular Small Reactor "Linglong No. 1"—the "Linglong Heart"—was successfully installed. This is the first milestone on the critical path of the Linglong No. 1 nuclear island equipment installation, and it is a "first show" of modular manufacturing and installation of nuclear reactors, representing a historic step forward for global nuclear miniaturization and marking China's leading position in the construction of modular small reactors.
The Hainan Nuclear Power Multipurpose Modular Small Reactor Technology Demonstration Project commenced construction in Hainan on July 13, 2021, and is general contracted by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. To ensure comprehensive control of project quality, the China Nuclear Engineering Hainan project team made overall plans, and worked closely with the owner and construction units to effectively overcome various difficulties, including unpredictable weather, high equipment stability requirements, and lack of first-reactor experience, finally achieving the goal of "full preparation, one-time success".
As the reactor building and the heart of the nuclear power plant, and as equipment with the highest safety, regulatory, and quality levels in the reactor building, the "Linglong Heart," unlike the "Hualong No. 1" reactor pressure vessel, breaks away from the current style of traditional nuclear power pressure vessels. It successfully integrates the direct current steam generator, main pipeline cold section, hot section, transition section, and main pump casing into the pressure vessel, forming a pressure vessel under an integrated module. Its innovative design not only improves the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants but also greatly shortens the construction period and improves economic efficiency. It is the crystallization of advanced design concepts in China's nuclear industry.……………………
